“The Rufford Poachers” – a talk by Sam Millard

October 3 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

Sam Millard is a member of the Rattlejag Morris dancing troupe which aims to preserve and promote the traditional morris dances of Nottinghamshire. He is also an expert on local country lore, and his talk this evening centres on the notorious 19th century case of the Rufford Poachers which resulted in one death and four deportations.  It also inspired the local ballad The Rufford Park Poachers which is now hailed as an exemplar of the traditional English folk song.  Look out for Sam’s display in Newark Library from 17th Sept
