“Basket Weaving Made Modern” – a talk and demonstration by Maggie Cooper

6th February 2019 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Maggie Cooper trained at the Bournville College of Art in Birmingham and today bears the distinction of having been granted the Freedom of the City of London in recognition for her work, and is a member of the Worshipful Company of Basketmakers. Maggie joins us tonight from her home in Leicestershirw, a county that was once the heart of the English willow industry. And, of course, we have our own history of basket-making along the Trent around Newark. Maggie works with locally-sourced materials, making and recreating English forms, reviving ancient and forgotten designs, and creating new artworks for the modern day.
